Whatever you think of his mistakes, there’s no denying that what Arnold Schwarzenegger has accomplished is amazing.
- Everyone thought he was too young, but he won the Mr. Universe title at age 20 and after failing the first attempt he went on to win Mr. Olympia seven times – and still holds the record for being the youngest to win the title.
- Everyone said his accent would hold him back, but “I’ll be back” is famous because of his accent.
- Everyone thought he’d never be an actor because his body was too big, his name too long. But when they were looking for a Conan or a Terminator, he was exactly what they were looking for.
- Everyone laughed that an actor/bodybuilder was running for governor but when the people wanted a man of action to tackle the big issues he was who they elected.
He accomplished all these feats with the same 2 principles.
#1 – Visualize It
There will be naysayers that are quick to point out all the reasons why you can’t reach your goal – and some will have some good points, with best intentions at heart. This is why you can’t take your eyes off the prize, why you have to keep sight of your goal yourself, because if you don’t believe, who will?
The mental aspect makes the difference between you working past the pain, seeing everything you do as one step closer to your dream coming true, to having a good time while doing the work you need to do to reach your goal. It’s makes the visualization of the finished product feel real to you before others can see it.
#2 Do Whatever It Takes
You have to be hungry for that vision, to set short term and long term goals that you know will get you to that place. You have to see it and go after it.
You can’t be afraid of hard work. You believe in yourself, in your goal, and you go for it. All out. You figure out what it will take for you to accomplish your goal and you do it. Day in, day out, until you reach it.
You can’t be afraid of failure. You have to be willing to do whatever it takes to make that vision a reality, and there will be failures along the way. Every successful person has faced failure, and so will you. The difference is the ability to learn from our mistakes and move on instead of seeing it as a sign to quit.
What is your mental attitude towards your goal?
By saying there are only 2 principles keeps it simple but don’t fool yourself – it takes a hunger to see your vision through to the end, a passion that drives you to do whatever it takes to see it come to fruition, and a knowing that you’ll never give up no matter what failures happen along the way. This is how champions are created.
