All over the world they’re enjoying the fruitcake they received for Christmas. Not by eating it – by tossing it!
Fruitcake Toss Day is usually the first Saturday in January.
But in the place where it all began they are celebrating 25 years of tossing fruitcake, and it is being held on January 23rd.
In America, it all started in 1996 in Manitou Springs, Colorado. Locals who received fruitcake in aluminum foil trays wrapped them tight in plastic wrap and had a shot put contest with them in the park.
It got bigger and better every year. You just never know what they’re going to think of to toss their fruitcake this year.
Fruitcake Toss Competition
Of course the ultimate way to celebrate Fruitcake Toss Day is to journey to Manitou Springs, Colorado and join in the fun.
But if you can’t do that, why not hold your own Fruitcake Toss Competition?
Ultimate Fruitcake Toss
Challenge your friends to come up with ideas for the ultimate fruitcake toss method:
Hold a Fruitcake Shotput Competition and see who can throw it the farthest. All you need is a looong measuring tape, some fruitcake wrapped tightly in plastic wrap (that weigh the same) and a circle made with Christmas evergreen garland.
Every family has a secret fruitcake recipe that’s been passed down for generations. Get your friends together for a Fruitcake Bake-off and crown one the best of all.
Have a build-your-own hot chocolate bar with holiday goodies for spectators. And lots of water to cleanse the palate for taste-testers.
These fruitcakes are too good to toss.
