On June 9 we celebrate that luscious summer fruit pie. It’s National Strawberry Rhubarb Pie Day!
There is nothing like a pie with fresh fruit. Head to your local strawberry patch to buy or pick your own berries & make a real celebration of the day.
Don’t worry about the kids. Most places have an awesome play area for the children so you don’t have to pay for all the berries they’ll eat while they’re there.
How to know when a strawberry is ripe: check the area at the top of the berry near the stem and leaves. A ripe strawberry is fully red; green or white near the top means the fruit is under-ripe.
Or, go to the Farmer’s Market if it’s open and buy fresh rhubarb and strawberries. (Call ahead if you can because quite often they sell out quickly and require ordering for delivery another day.)
How to celebrate National Strawberry Rhubarb Pie Day.
Your local bakery or grocery store will probably have some pies, but they won’t even come close to the flavor of a fresh pie. Why not bake your own?
